Walking through Marbella is a real pleasure for the senses. In this article we are going to tell you and also show you 5 places that you cannot miss during your visit to this city on the Costa del Sol.

Marbella is a city that has practically everything for the visitor to enjoy. Our town enjoys good weather during practically all twelve months. 315 days of sunshine on average per year and a temperature that is the envy of half of Europe. In the summer season the average maximum is 29 °C  and minimum is  21 °C . Which allows you to walk practically at any time of the day.

Now, we are going to talk to you about those magnificent places where you can enjoy the summer with a nice walk through Marbella.

1. Old Town

Just 200 meters from our hotel we have the Old Town. In less than 5 minutes walking north you enter the network of old streets of Marbella.

The Old Town is the heart of the city that is reminiscent of the typical Andalusian town. This is the old Arab Medina.

Without a doubt it is one of the most interesting places to visit in Marbella. Stroll through its narrow streets where you can take shelter during hot moments. It is also full of shops, bars and restaurants that offer visitors an unparalleled experience.

What to see in the Historic Center of Marbella?

In the Old Town of Marbella there are some of the most representative buildings and monuments of the city.

There you can find the Royal Hospital of Mercy , built by the Catholic Monarchs and called Hospitalillo by the people of Marbella.

Currently it is a Cultural Center that hosts different types of cultural events.

Furthermore, in the Old Town, its streets are dotted with small chapels. One of them is that of San Juan de Dios . On Misericordia Street, right next to Hospitalillo.

If you continue walking through the Old Town of Marbella between streets adorned with flowers and pots with geraniums, you will come across the Church of Our Lady of the Encarnation . It is the main church of the city.

It is a 17th century building as we know it today. Built on the main mosque of the medina. Several elements attract attention, such as its bell tower, its main altar or the Sol Mayor organ, which is the most important built in Spain during the 20th century.

Churches and Chapels in Marbella

If you continue walking through the Old Town of Marbella you will find another gem, a marvel. Among the variety of museums in Marbella, we find the Contemporary Spanish Engraving Museum in the historic center.

It was inaugurated in 1992 in the old Bazán Hospital. The museum offers more than 4,000 works, including engravings, silkscreens… Among the works, we can enjoy well-known authors such as Dalí or Picasso .

It encompasses all types of trends and is possibly the most important within its category in all of Spain.

But don’t leave the Old Town because just a few meters walking northwest you will reach the Plaza de los Naranjos, the  nerve center of the city of Marbella . Your heart. And one of the best known corners, or the most, of the city.

One of the access streets is one of the most picturesque in the city. You can’t leave Marbella without taking your photo of Carmen Street with its whitewashed wall full of pots of geraniums

The Plaza del los Naranjos owes its current name to the trees planted in 1941, replacing the existing palm trees, which had previously replaced the primitive horse chestnut trees.

It houses famous buildings such as the Casa del Corregidor, the hermitage of Santiago with its fountains (both buildings from the 16th century) or the Town Hall from the time of the Catholic Monarchs.

It is true that the city has grown a lot. But the Plaza de los Naranjos is still that place to feel the pulse of Marbella. Also a magical place for tourists with many restaurants or cafes, including some to enjoy the typical churros with chocolate in a unique place.

2. Alameda Park

Just south of the Old Town you will find one of those places in Marbella that you cannot miss is La Alameda .

La Alameda has been the pride of Marbella for a long time. This enormous green area, the authentic lung of the city, dates back to the 18th century and once occupied an area of 20,000 m2 (20% of the urban core) whose limits were Fortaleza and Alameda streets to the north, Avenida del Mar to the east, To the west, Avenida Miguel Cano and to the south, Avenida del Fuerte to the exit of the tunnel.

The flora presents a few varieties of ficus, among which a magnificent  Ficus Pandurata  and pinaceae, such as  Pinus Pinae , stand out , and some rare and valuable botanical species.

3. Avenue of the Sea

And we continue walking through Marbella. From Alameda to the south you find Avenida del Mar.

It is a pleasant path that connects the Alameda and the City Center with the Paseo Marítimo and the beach.

In its central part it houses a permanent exhibition of bronze statues of the brilliant artist Salvador Dalí due to the imagination of the prodigious creator of Cadaqués.

4. Promenade

One of the greatest pleasures is walking along the Marbella Promenade  or taking a quiet bike ride, for example.

The central section is about 7 kilometers between the Fishing Port of La Bajadilla and Puerto Banús.

But it goes much further, since the Senda Litoral extends along the entire Marbella coastline. From Cabopino to almost Guadalmina, in San Pedro Alcántara.

Here you can find numerous restaurants, all kinds of businesses and the ports of La Bajadilla and the Marbella Marina, which is called Virgen del Carmen.

Obviously you have the municipality’s beaches at hand. On our blog we have also prepared a very complete guide for you.

5. Puerto Banus

We finish our recommendations with an icon of Marbella. There is no self-respecting tourist or visitor who has passed through our city without taking a walk through Puerto Banús.

Just about 5 kilometers from our hotel is the emblematic José Banús port.

Luxury restaurants, shops of the best fashion brands, printing boats and incredible cars…
